Football’s Poindexter Named Sports Network Third Team All-American
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Senior guard Kris Poindexter was among 16 Big Sky Conference players named to The Sports Network Football Championship All-America Team, which was released on Wednesday.
The Big Sky led all FCS conferences in selections. Four Sky players were tabbed to the first team, which trailed only the Missouri Valley’s five. The team was selected by media and sports information directors.
Poindexter joined Weber State WR Joe Collins earning third-team honors on offense. Eastern Washington safety Matt Johnson, Idaho State return man Tavoy Moore and Montana State defensive tackle Dan Ogden were selected o the third-team defense.
Poindexter started on the offensive since coming to campus in 2007 from Phoenix, showing his versatility by playing both guard and center during his tenure. He was named Newcomer of the Year on offense by the coaching staff after seeing action in 11 games with seven starts in his freshman season and earned all-conference honors last season. He has started more games than any player on the roster, making 38 in his career.
Eastern Washington linebacker J.C. Sherritt, Montana State offensive tackle Mike Person and Montana cornerback Trumaine Johnson were all named to the first team, making them all consensus All-Americans. The trio was also named to the AFCA, Walter Camp and Associated Press All-America first teams.
