Football Players Honor Equipment Manager, Daughter

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona University football players are wearing stickers with the initials "AF" on their helmets this season to honor the memory of Alice Fox, the daughter of equipment manager George Fox who passed away last fall. Sophomore Nick Ragland-Johnsen was among the players who approached Head Coach Jerome Souers about the idea in the offseason.

Fox, who is entering his ninth season in his position in the athletic department, was touched by the gesture.

"It means they see me as more than just someone who fusses at them when they lose their socks," said Fox. "I was really touched. They came up with the idea last fall when it happened and they did not forget about it over the summer. For me, it drove home the point that we really are one big family."

The stickers were first applied to the helmets prior to the Southern Utah game.

Fox and his wife, Kathy, have established a scholarship in memory of their daughter, who was a 2005 graduate of NAU and an accomplished musician. Any person wishing to make a donation to the Alice Fox Music Scholarship may do so at any Wells Fargo Bank.
