Spring Game Saturday at Cromer Stadium at Noon; BBQ by Satchmos to Follow
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University football team will hold its Spring Game Saturday, April 24 at Noon at Cromer Stadium on the campus of Coconino High School in Flagstaff.
The players will take the field at 11:30 for warm-ups with the scrimmage starting at noon. A barbeque will be available following the game served by local establishment Satchmo’s. For $5, fans will have a choice of a hamburger or hot dogs with cole slaw, beans and potato salad with a Satchmo’s slider and a drink.
The Lumberjacks will run the offense against defense for 50-60 plays, looking to mix up the matchups throughout the contest will focus on the No. 1 units.
"We need to have our No. 1 unit come out and establish a good tempo and execute,” said Head Coach Jerome Souers. “The meat and potatoes of the scrimmage will really be playing everybody. The guys that are fighting for roles on the team have to come out and perform. If you are going to be on the squad in the fall as a starter or a backup, those things are going to be decided at the end of the spring. It is important for a lot of individuals that are on the fringe as to what their role is going to look like.”
Overall, NAU returns 12 starters from last season, including eight on defense and five on offense and 47 letterwinners.
NAU finished the season 5-6 and tied for fifth in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks were ranked as high as No. 21 by The Sports Network FCS College Football poll during the season.
