105.1 The Big Talker to Stay Home of Lumberjack Athletics with Three-Year Extension

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Grenax Broadcasting II, LLC and Northern Arizona University have signed a three-year extension for 105.1 FM The Big Talker (KBTK) to carry all NAU football and men's basketball game broadcasts for the 2011-2014 academic years. Selected women’s basketball games will also be aired on the station.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with NAU Athletics,” said Greg Dinetz, CEO of Grenax Broadcasting II LLC. “We are also pleased to announce that in addition to hearing the games on 105.1 The Big Talker and at www.bigtalkerradio.com, NAU fans will also be able to listen to the games on their iPhone, Blackberry, or Android smartphone via our free mobile application. Lumberjack fans and NAU alumni will never have to miss a game again regardless of where they are.”

The new mobile applications extend the worldwide reach of the broadcasts that already blanket northern Arizona. The flagship station of the Lumberjack Radio Network allows listeners in Flagstaff, Prescott, Camp Verde, Williams, Winslow and Sedona to tune into 105.1 The Big Talker to hear Mitch Strohman’s colorful play-by-play.

Strohman has been a part of NAU radio and television sports broadcasts since 1991 and he currently co-hosts “The Mitch and Joe Show” weekdays between 4-5 p.m. on 105.1.  Former NAU quarterback Kevin Stephens will again join Strohman in the booth for the Lumberjack football action in 2011.

“Signing a three-year contract with 105.1 FM, The Big Talker is huge for NAU Lumberjack fans both throughout northern Arizona and around the world,” said Strohman.  “The station’s reach in northern Arizona on the FM dial is gigantic; its reach around the globe through free streaming on the station’s website (www.bigtalkerradio.com) and through its free Apple, Blackberry and Droid apps is groundbreaking.”

105.1 The Big Talker first began carrying the games during the 2010-11 season.

"We are extremely happy to extend our partnership with Grenax Broadcasting as our broadcast partner in the Lumberjack Radio Network," said Jim Fallis, Athletics Director. "Lumberjack fans from Flagstaff to the North Pole have listened to games via the various platforms provided by Grenax Broadcasting and the reach will only be enhanced by the new mobile applications for our fans and supporters."

In addition to 105.1 The Big Talker Grenax Broadcasting II LLC owns and operates four FM radio stations in the Flagstaff-Prescott markets: 105.1 The Big Talker (KBTK), the NAU Athletics Flagship and home to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity;  The Big 107.5 KOLT Country 107.5 (KSED), featuring Big D and Bubba in the morning and 20 songs in a row all day; 96.7 The Wolf (KWMX), home of Bob and Tom in the morning and 92.5 The Canyon (KFLX) with Dan Kennedy in the morning and Ryan Seacrest’s “On-Air” weekday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

“The Lumberjack Nation need never miss a NAU football or men’s basketball game through The Big Talker,” said Strohman. “Combined with our television presence on Fox Sports, this gives us an enormous and powerful platform to promote NAU through our sports broadcasts!  This is the most exciting time for the NAU Lumberjack Network in my 20 years with the program.”

NAU kicks off the 2011 football season on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Arizona in Tucson and hosts Fort Lewis in the home opener on Sept. 10 in the newly renovated J.L. Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.
