PHOENIX, Ariz. – Lumberjack Athletic Association members Dr. Gerald and Sue Ladhoff of Sedona have been selected the 2011 recipients of the Advocate of the Year Award by the Phoenix Women's Sports Association (PWSA). They will be recognized at the 2011 PWSA Annual event, Game ON!, which will take place at the Icehouse in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, May 21.
“Gerry and Sue are more than just donors,” said Head Swimming and Diving Coach Andy Johns. “They are friends of the program. They truly enjoy being a part of what we are doing. Their greatest satisfaction comes from knowing their support helps us achieve in the classroom, the pool and the community.”
The Ladhoffs have been strong supporters of the women’s swimming and diving program dating back to Gerry’s time on the faculty at NAU teaching criminal justice from 1972-87. He was also a student-athlete at UCLA.
They have supported the program via yearly scholarship donations, a swimming and diving scholarship endowment, and a swimming and diving enhancement account used to provide championship-level experience thru programs above-and-beyond basic opportunities. They also host the program’s end-of-year banquet every year and help to recruit new program donors and supporters.
The Ladhoffs will be recognized with an elite class of student-athletes, coaches and teams from around the state.
Individual tickets are $95 until the day of the event. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarship opportunities for underserved local female youth athletes and PWSA programs to help girls find their power through sport.
Founded in 2001 by Nona Lee, Vice President and General Counsel for the Arizona Diamondbacks, PWSA is modeled after the Women’s Sports Foundation, which was founded by Billie Jean King with a mission of advancing the lives of girls and women through sport and physical activity.
