Thirty-Five Lumberjacks Earn Spring Big Sky All-Academic Honors

OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona placed 35 student-athletes from the sports of women's golf, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field on the Spring Big Sky All-Academic team.

Added to 49 Fall selections and 40 Winter selections, NAU totaled 124 Big Sky All-Academic selections during the 2011-12 academic year and 144 total All-Academic honorees with the addition of 20 swimming & diving student-athletes named as Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) selections.

To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1)Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2)Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3)Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.

The women's outdoor track & field team led the way with 17 selections including senior Kortnee Burton, who was named NAU's Co-Female Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year at the 2012 Golden Eagle awards in April. Senior thrower Pascal Tang, who was named NAU's Big Sky Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Golden Eagle Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, led 12 selections from the Big Sky Champion men's outdoor track & field team.

Junior Stephanie Kim and freshmen Laura Jabczenski and Melissa Olson represented the NAU women's golf team and were joined by freshmen Hannah Stone and Johanna Vang from women's tennis. Senior Ben Lantz rounded out the group as the lone selection from men's tennis.
