SAAC Prepares Initiative to Help Haiti
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – More than
30 days after the earthquake in Haiti, the Northern Arizona Student
Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has continued to stay focused on
the relief effort. SAAC will be at both NAU men’s basketball
games this weekend with the goal of raising funds for the people of
Haiti.
Port-Au-Prince, the Haitian capital that was decimated by a 7.0
earthquake on January 12, has been aided by numerous volunteer and
charitable efforts from around the world. But as the violent rain
season approaches, the people of Haiti remain in harm’s
way.
“Helping the relief fund is a great way to represent the
University and show that we still care about the Haitian
people,” said SAAC co-chair and track and field athlete
Nicole Elliott. “Helping people out shows your character and
we feel there are a lot of people at Northern Arizona and in
Flagstaff that want to aid in the relief efforts just like us. This
is a great opportunity for everyone to give back.”
People wishing to donate to the Haiti Relief Fund should attend
Thursday’s game against Portland State at 6:35 p.m. in the
Walkup Skydome. SAAC will be selling NAU “throwback”
apparel and all proceeds will be given to the Haiti relief
effort.
On Saturday, NAU faces Eastern Washington also at 6:35 p.m. in the
Walkup Skydome and SAAC will be selling “Split the Pot”
tickets for one dollar. The money earned on Saturday will be
donated as well.
