Case Cookus Honored as STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Oct. 9, 2017) – Northern Arizona University sophomore quarterback Case Cookus has been honored as the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 9 it was announced on Monday.

The sophomore signal caller rang up 380 yards on 26-of-45 passing while adding three touchdowns and no interceptions in last Saturday's convincing 37-16 win over then-No. 7/11 Illinois State, who entered the contest boasting the nation's No. 2 ranked defensive unit.

Cookus and the Lumberjack offense put up a total of 431 yards and 37 points against a Redbird defensive unit that had entered the game allowing just an average of 166.5 yards and 8.8 points per contest.

Cookus also hauled in the first touchdown reception of his career, a 23-yard pass from freshman Chance Brewington in the win over the Redbirds.

The Lumberjack offense has totaled over 400 yards in four of five games this season, while Cookus has amassed 1,584 yards passing with 12 TDs and three interceptions over the first five games of 2017.

Cookus was also previously recognized as the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week and earned honorable mention status from College Football Performance following his performance against Illinois State last week.

Senior safety Josh Clark also earned honorable mention status for STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors following his career-best 11 tackles, including a sack and three tackles for loss in the win over Illinois State.  He was also selected as the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

The Northern Arizona win over No. 7/11 Illinois State represented the highest-ranked opponent a member of the Big Sky Conference has defeated this season.

The Lumberjacks return to Big Sky action this weekend as they hit the road for a game at Portland State (0-5, 0-2 Big Sky) on Saturday, Oct. 14.  Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.
