Harold Smith was an Associated Press, All American Honorable Mention in 1978. He was selected 1st team Big Sky Conference defensive back in 1976, 1977 and 1978. At Northern Arizona University he was ranked 3rd in interceptions (11), and 5th in tackles (208). During his career he had 24 deflections, recovered three fumbles and forced six fumbles. Smith played in the NCAA-Division II playoff game in 1977, where his team was ranked 5th nationally. He was also a member of the 1978 Big Sky Championship team. Smith was considered by the Big Sky coaches as such an outstanding defensive player that their offenses were designed to run from him. He was an excellent professional prospect, but declined offers and returned to Florence, Az, where he had been an All State high school football and basketball player. As a criminal justice major, Smith works with the youth in Florence.
