John Scholtfeld, Basketball, 1937-41, Football, 1937-38, Track and Field, 1938-41
A four-year basketball letterwinner who also lettered in both football and track and field at Arizona State Teachers Colllege. He captained the 1940-41 team that posted a 9-9 record with victories over Arizona (70-56) and Arizona State (48-47) during the season. He was later inducted into the Arizona Basketball Hall of Fame. While on campus, Scholtfelt lettered two seasons with the football squad and participated in the high jump, long jump and relays for the track and field squad for four years. He was awarded the Gold Axe by the student body in 1941. He served his country as a Line officer in World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He later served as Superintendent of schools for Greenlee County, Clifton Unified School District, Wilcox School District and as the Assistant Superintendent of the Alhambra School District in Phoenix.
