John Pavlich (Football/Track, 1936-38)
Pavlich was an offensive and defensive tackle for the Lumberjacks. The 1938 Lumberjacks team was the only Arizona school to win a Border conference football game, defeating rival ASU-Tempe 19-13. Also participated in two field events, the discus and shot put. Coach Pavlich assisted Frank Brickey with the 1947-ASC varsity football squad. As both a high school basketball and football coach, his basketball record was 156-99 and his football record was 75 wins, 41 losses and 3 ties. He coached in McNary, Globe and Sunnyside (Tucson). He won the Football State Championship in 1953, 1954, 1957 and 1960. His basketball teams were State Champions in 1960, 1964 and 1967. He was voted Conference Coach of the year in 1953, 1956, 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1967. He coached the Arizona High School All Star Football Game in 1954 and the All Star Basketball Game in 1960. Serving the youth of Arizona for 21 years, Pavlich is a member of the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
