Anthony "Tony" Ljubicich
(Boxing and Football, 1934-38)
Tony Ljubicich was a member of the boxing team during the fours years he attended Arizona State Teachers College. He captained the 1937 team and was an All Border Conference selection. Fighting as a middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight, he won all three championships as a senior. His collegiate record was 24-2. As a professional, he was 4-1, although a broken hand later ended his career. As a four year letterman of the A.S.T.C football team, Ljubicich started every game. He played guard on offense and tackle on defense. He was also the team's kicking specialist for kickoffs, extra points, and field goals. He was an All Border conference team selection in 1936, and was co-captain of the 1937 A.S.T.C. team that won the school's 75th game with a 13-6 victory over Arizona State University in Tempe. In 1937, Ljubicich was elected to the small school's All American team. He later coached and taught in Arizona public school's until his retirement in 1979.
