Troy Hudson

(Basketball, 1977-79/Graduate Assistant 1979-80/Assistant Coach 1983-85)

Troy Hudson was a two-year member on the men’s basketball team. Hudson earned the Joseph C. Rolle Team Most Valuable Player award both of his seasons. Hudson was named a Big Sky All-Conference Second Team honoree in 1979, after receiving honorable mention accolades the previous season. In the classroom, Hudson earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors and was an All-Big Sky Academic Team honoree. During the 1977-78 season, Hudson led NAU in field goal percentage (52.3), free throw percentage (88.5), rebounds (176/7.0rpg), and minutes played (888). In his senior season, Hudson repeated as the team’s top field goal percentage shooter (51.1) and minutes played leader (1,015). At the end of his playing time, Hudson ranked first in free throw percentage (87.4) and minutes averaged (36.1) and sixth in scoring average (15.8). Hudson’s free throw shooting percentage ranked him second and third on the NAU single season charts at the time of his departure, while his minutes played average garnered him the top two single season marks. Hudson was the first NAU player to play more than 1,000 minutes in a season (1,105). He made a perfect 10-for-10 free throws against Montana State in 1978.
