Brown was the first wrestling coach at Northern Arizona University program and served as head coach for 13 years. In the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games, he served as a referee-judge and was elected chairman of the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Committee for the 1972 games in Munich. He is a member of the Arizona Wrestling Hall of Fame. Upon his arrival at NAU in 1959, Brown also established one of the nation's finest law enforcement programs.
