NAU Athletics Hall of Fame
Frank Brickey
(Basketball Coach, 1940-47/Football Coach, 1943-46/Football Player 1929-32)
Frank
Brickey became the first Northern Arizona University alum to return
to Flagstaff and lead an athletic team, when he took over the reins
of the basketball program in 1940. The former football player
also served as head coach of the football team for three seasons,
carving out a 10-8-2 record during that time. His basketball
coaching mark of 63-47 culminated with a third-place finish at the
NAIA national tournament in 1947. That squad, which finished
with a 19-7 record (the school best at that time), was inducted
into the NAU Hall of Fame in 1982. During his playing days he
spent much of his free time as a student leader, serving as vice
president of the student body and yearbook editor. After
leaving Flagstaff, Brickey had a successful career as coach of the
University of Utah.
