Matthew Sewell begins his first year as a media relations graduate assistant with the Lumberjacks, where he will serve as the primary media contact for the cross country and track and field programs.  In addition to his day-to-day media coverage of his primary sports, he will also assist with the coverage of all 15 intercollegiate sports at NAU.

Sewell joins the Sports Information staff at Northern Arizona after earning a bachelor’s degree in communications and public relations with a minor in marketing from Carroll College (Mont.) in 2011.  As an undergraduate, he worked for two years as the marketing and promotions intern for the Fighting Saints and was promoted to assistant sports information director his senior year.  While at Carroll, his duties included managing all social media outlets, planning in-game activities for basketball and volleyball, and assisting with game management for most Saints sporting events.

In addition to working for Carroll College Athletics, Sewell was also a four-year member of the Fighting Saints Men’s Golf team, assisting them to a second-place finish in the Frontier Conference Championship his senior year, the highest in school history. 

Sewell, a native of Deer Lodge, Mont., hopes to pursue a career in the sports industry in the future, and he is currently working towards his master’s degree in applied communication.
