Theresa Doherty begins her third
year as an assistant athletic trainer at Northern Arizona
University. She joined the NAU staff from the University of
Florida. Doherty is the primary athletic trainer for the Lumberjack
women's basketball team.
While at Florida, Doherty earned her master of science in applied
physiology and kinesiology while working as the head athletic
trainer at F.W. Buchholz High School for two seasons. She organized
and delivered training coverage to the entire athletic department
for the Class 6A high school, while traveling with the freshman,
junior varsity and varsity football teams.
Prior to her graduate work, Doherty served as an assistant
athletic trainer at the University of Maryland, working with the
wrestling and men’s and women’s golf teams.
A native of Bowie, Md., she garnered her first athletic training
experience as a student at her alma mater, West Chester (Pa.)
University. She was also a two-year letterwinner in the sport of
volleyball. She received her bachelor of science in athletic
training in May of 2004, while serving as a member of Phi Epsilon
Kappa, the honors fraternity for health sciences.
In her spare time, she has volunteered with the New York City
Marathon, the Pennsylvania Special Olympics and the Five Points of
Life Marathon (2007, 2008) in Gainesville.
She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s
Association and licensed in athletic training in the state of
Arizona. She also is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and
Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Academy
of Sports Medicine.
