Sarah Shute was named assistant athletic trainer in August of 2010 after joining the Northern Arizona University staff as a graduate assistant. She assists with the day-to-day operations of the athletic training operation and will work primarily with the football and men’s basketball teams in 2011-12.
Shute served two seasons as a graduate assistant in athletic training, working with women’s soccer and volleyball teams. She also worked primarily with the Lumberjack volleyball program in 2010-11 and has coordinated the spring football care and treatment in both 2010 and 2011.
While at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Shute gained experience in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries as an undergraduate student trainer. She worked with eight different varsity sports including men’s and women’s track and football in her last two semesters on campus.
Shute has professional certification in athletic training from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) and is a member of the NATA and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Shute also has certifications from the American Red Cross (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer) and YMCA of the USA (Principles of YMCA Health and Fitness and YMCA Personal Training Instructor). Her other clinical practice includes time spent at the Aurora Medical Center in the Oshkosh, Wisc., Lutheran Academy and Oshkosh North High School.
Shute was born in Neenah, Wis. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in May of 2008 and earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from NAU in May 2010. She is a die-hard Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.
