Veteran announcer Mitch Strohman returns for his eighth consecutive season and 13th overall as the "Voice of the Lumberjacks" for football and men's basketball on the Lumberjack Television/Radio Network. Strohman also handles play-by-play duties for selected women's basketball, soccer and volleyball games.
More than 30 radio games during the season are simulcast by NAU-TV, who distributes the games in full HD to Suddenlink Flagstaff Cable channels 4 and 104, Fox Sports Arizona, Fox College Sports (FCS) and the live, online channel: http://www.nau-tv.com/watchlive/ Strohman is also the host of the monthly show produced by NAU-TV, “The Score”. “The Score” airs on Fox Sports Arizona and Fox College Sports, as well as Suddenlink Flagstaff Cable channels 4 and 104.
Strohman first started doing NAU play-by-play in 1991 on Flagstaff cable TV and he took over the radio duties from 1994 to 1998 returning to the NAU broadcast booth in 2005. Mitch has called several milestone games in NAU history including the all of the first ever broadcasts of NAU sports on Fox Sports Arizona and Fox College Sports, Lumberjacks’ first ever NCAA Tournament appearance against Cincinnati in 1998, women’s basketball’s first ever NCAA Tournament game against Baylor in 2006, the first ever I-AA football playoff appearance against Furman in 1996, men’s NIT games against Arkansas in 1997 and Delaware State in 2006, the men’s first ever game in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in 2011 and some 20 men’s and women’s Big Sky Conference Tournament basketball games. Mitch has called nearly 600 Lumberjack football, basketball, volleyball and soccer games and nearly 100 Flagstaff area high school football and basketball games.
Strohman has been honored with dozens of broadcasting awards, including two Governor Cups from the Arizona Associated Press. In 1992, Mitch was named Arizona Broadcast Journalist of the Year by the Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association and in 1988 he was honored with the top national news coverage award from the AP.
Strohman is contracted by NAU through his company, MAS Communications, which provides voice talent, talk shows, news and sports anchoring and event emceeing.
Strohman has served on dozens of local non-profit boards and has emceed hundreds of events. Mitch is currently a member of the Arizona Daily Sun’s Publisher’s Advisory Group and is also on the Board of Directors the Lumberjack Athletic Association (LAA). He’s been an on-air fundraiser for past 20 years on KAET Channel Eight (PBS) in Phoenix. Mitch is currently co-host and producer of “The Mitch and Joe Show,” a news talk/opinion program heard weekdays between 4-5 p.m. on 105.1 FM The Big Talker and www.bigtalkerradio.com, which is also the radio home of Lumberjack football and basketball. Mitch also hosts “What’s Cooking with Mitch,” a popular TV show that highlights local restaurants and their chefs on NAU-TV.
Strohman is married to the former Ana Morales, a NAU graduate. They have two children: son Zach (19) and daughter Catalina (13).
