Rules and Regulations
RULES AND REGULATIONS
To be academically eligible, all student-athletes must:
-Pass 6 credits towards your degree each semester
-Pass 18 credits towards your degree each academic year (fall,
winter, spring)
-Be in “good academic standing” based on the total
number of credit hours taken
1-14 net hours: 1.80 NAU cum GPA
15-29 net hours: 1.90 NAU cum GPA
30+ net hours: 2.00 NAU cum GPA
First year student-athletes must also pass 24 credits towards
their degree in their first calendar year (fall, winter, spring,
summer).
In addition to the above requirements, student-athletes must
complete the following:
-Entering your third year: need 40% (48 units) towards your
degree
-Entering your fourth year: need 60% (72 units) towards your
degree
-Entering your fifth year: need 80% (96) units towards your
degree
* based on a 120 unit degree
Minimum Enrollment:
All NAU student-athletes must be enrolled in at least 15 semester
hours in order to practice or compete (unless he/she needs fewer
hours to graduate). Any exceptions must be granted by the
Lumberjack Academics Office.
Web Course Policy
Freshman student-athletes may NOT enroll in a web course regardless
if they meet an exception
Sophomore and junior student-athletes with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or
higher may enroll in one web course per academic term (term = fall,
winter, spring, summer)
Senior student-athletes may enroll in one web course per term (term
= fall, winter, spring, summer)
Exceptions to the above policies may be granted by the Athletic
Eligibility Committee AND a member from the IAC and be in
accordance to the following guidelines:
1. In person course not available and student-athlete needs the
course to stay on track for graduation
2. Transfer students w/ limited NAU GPA record (ex. a transfer
student w/ a high GPA out of community college or other 4 year
institution may be granted an exception to enroll in one web
course)
3. Certain majors w/ web required courses
4. Web courses during internships, student teaching, etc.
The student-athlete may petition a decision made by the NAU
Athletics Academics Office.
