NAU Student-Athletes Welcome Newest Lumberjack Freshmen to Campus

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Greeting the newest wave of Lumberjacks upon arrival at Northern Arizona University, NAU Athletics once again partnered with the university in the annual Welcome Back Jacks. With boxes of items ranging from clothes to snacks, the NAU class of 2020 arrived on campus in mass and the Lumberjack student-athletes were ready to aid in any way possible.

"It's always nice to lend a helping hand," said junior running back Corbin Jountti. "I remember when I was a freshman and how difficult moving in was, so it's the least I could do. Especially as student-athletes, we are able bodied and capable of such a task."

The NAU football, swimming & diving, track & field and cross country, women's tennis and cheer & dance teams participated on Thursday. Together, the Lumberjacks helped usher in the newest group of freshmen by lifting boxes and unloading vehicles before moving personal items into a number of residence halls.

"It's great to give back and help the freshmen feel at ease with moving into college," said redshirt junior thrower Brooke Andersen. "It's important to establish a good relationship with them because we want them to feel like they are as much of a part of the NAU community as we are. It's good to let them know that we support them and hopefully they support us."

The fall 2016 semester opens next Monday, Aug. 29.
