Northern Arizona University has multiple Graduate Assistant positions within the Athletic Department available for Fall 2016. The positions begin in August 2016 and are 1-year (9-10 month) appointments with the potential to be renewed upon a successful performance evaluation.
The program will provide Graduate Assistants with practical, professional experiences. The GAs are members of the department staff and will be fully exposed to the daily operations of a Division I Athletics Department in preparation for a future in the business of intercollegiate athletics.

NAU Sports Medicine
Northern Arizona University Sports Medicine will be a model program in Division I sports medicine services. The licensed athletic trainers, physicians, and service professionals that operate under the Department of Sports Medicine will perpetually act in the best interest of the student athlete. Northern Arizona University Sports Medicine will operate to serve the student athletes, the university, the community, and the profession of athletic training. Our aim is to support student athletes not only on their path to graduation but in total wellness for a lifetime.
Northern Arizona University Sports Medicine is looking for motivated Athletic Trainers interested in developing professionally to prepare them for a career in Athletic Training. NAU is one of three state universities in Arizona with a main campus located in Flagstaff and dozens of statewide campuses as well as online learning options. The university is primarily a four-year, high-research, residential campus offering bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees, with additional degrees offered across the state and online. Our NCAA Division I athletic teams compete primarily in the Big Sky Conference and have produced a remarkable array of successful student-athletes. The Sports Medicine Department consists of four full-time certified athletic trainers, team physician, a medical services coordinator, five graduate assistants and students from the ATEP.
*Administrative Duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine
*Assigned Sport Coverage to include but not be limited to – Prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up care for student-athletes. Practice coverage, game/competition coverage, and general Athletic Training Room hours
*Assist with scheduling and administering Pre-participation physical exams
*Communicate with coaches, student athletes, physicians and other Athletic Training Staff
*Possibility to teach an entry level ATEP lab
*Assist with institutional drug testing of Student Athletes
*Act as a CP (clinical preceptor) and mentor to students in the NAU ATEP
*Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine
*Acceptance to the NAU School of Graduate Studies
*Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited institution
*NATABOC Certified or Eligible to sit for exam
*Must hold a license to practice in Arizona or be Arizona license eligible
*CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
*This is a 10 month appointment – renewable for a second year based on performance
* In- State and Out-of- State Tuition Waiver
* Stipend: $9,000 per year
* Book stipend
* Arizona Athletic Training Licensure fee covered annually: $322
* NATA dues covered annually: $230
* Professional development including NATA or RMATA symposium covered or other Continuing Education
